I have been blessed with above-average child, and he needs above average parenting, more understanding, more sensitivity, more creative parenting as Dr Sears reassures me in one of his books. I have to repeat it to myself ten times or more a day, ten thousand times a day, whenever I am at my ends wits, whenever I am about to loose my patience, take a deep breath Julia, forget that "creative" is the last thing you could be described with and repeat after dr Sears and remeber:
"High-need children whose behaviour is channelled appropriately may be the leader of the future. In fact many people who have contributed positively to society were once high-need children."
"Right from the start these children make clear they need more!... well and there is good news :) .... they also give more to everyone who cares for them... "- which means ME and Daddy :). I am feeling much better for a second, well maybe for few minutes.
You teach me every day how to be patient, how to widen my expactations and accept the way you are - very strong minded with persistant personality and unique...
Parenting is a fantastic journey but also bumpy road I have to say.
Whenever you protest so forcefully if your needs are not met I have to remember:
"High-need children feel everything so deeply, they react more powerfully if their feelings are disturbed".
How I wish I was more "laid back" so we could "roll smoothly along the road of life together" :) I think I have to adjust myself more to you... :)
Thank you Dr Sears for your book, whatever you say it makes me feel much better. Thank to you not only I am spending more time focusing on my toddler's uniqueness and reinforcing his positive character than on his tantrums but you also helped me to learn to manage my own inner self, so that I can be the mother my son needs :)
